Core-LX and Infosec Partner to Combat K-12 Cybersecurity Education Deserts

Paths to in-demand careers meet urgent employer and nation’s needs

Boulder, CO. December 2, 2021 - Core Learning Exchange (Core-LX) announced today that it has partnered with Infosec Learning to bring Infosec’s standard of excellence for Cyber Industry Training to its Career Technical Education (CTE) Core Collection™️. The move responds to the expected shortage of 1.8 million skilled U.S. cybersecurity workers by 2022, making educating and empowering the next generation of cybersecurity professionals imperative to our future national and economic security. Over time, what are now cyber education deserts must become oases of learning.

Though filling the cybersecurity talent pipeline was previously thought of as a longer-term goal, there is new urgency to address the tremendous workforce shortage. Solving the talent shortage requires starting with some of the youngest learners in the K-12 educational system.

“Introducing youth to cybersecurity concepts has incredible impact on both their knowledge of cybersecurity principles and ultimately their interest in the field,” says Jesse Mitchell, VP Business Development for Infosec Learning. “Seeding student interest in cybersecurity is one of the most critical ways to ensure every youth has exposure to these career options. Through our partnership with Core Learning Exchange, more students will have equal access to cybersecurity education opportunities and the tremendous livelihoods these careers afford individuals.”

Infosec’s challenge-based approach to labs creates an intriguing immersive experience and improves learner retention and success at all ages. With labs aligned to key certifications, students become immersed into challenge-based exercises across time, including ethical hacking and systems defense, digital forensics, Linux fundamentals, system administration, penetration testing, hadoop administration, and scripting.

“K-12 educators who are equipped with superior content, environments, and experiences are force multipliers when it comes to cybersecurity education. Empowered teachers play an essential role in empowering students to learn cybersecurity concepts in the classroom and enter the workforce with the knowledge and training required to succeed in the industry. Our partnership makes it easier for schools to introduce hands-on virtual labs and to train on and assess any cyber and information security skills,” says Jeff Katzman, CEO of Core Learning Exchange.
